Life is full of of pain and suffering, hardship, chaos, disappointment and regret, but the fact that you're reading this post today, is something to be grateful for. I've learned there is a responsibility that comes with freedom.
When I was younger (even in my college days), I truly didn't understand or know what it felt to be grateful. I was selfish, hadn't lived and learned just yet, and was caught up in my own pride. But now I get it, being grateful is a choice.
So today, I chose to make a list.
Not everyday is a good day, and on those bad days, I tend to only see the negative in life. This list took some thought, but it forced me to remind myself of the many reasons I have to be grateful.
the state of being grateful : thankful
I am thankful for my health, for overcoming injuries and sickness, and being able to live an active lifestyle and still binge on cookie dough at night.
I am thankful for my husband, who vowed to be my biggest cheerleader and has never once let me down.
I am thankful for my dogs, for their health and always greeting me at the door with a wet kiss and wagging tail.
I am thankful for my family, but especially my grandparents who have had the biggest impact on my life.
I am thankful for my friends, for sticking with me through the good and bad, and for laughing together until our stomach's hurt.
I am thankful for my job, while it's temporary (read more here) I am thankful it's helping me weather this storm, and providing me with a source of living.
I am thankful for my home, for being that place of comfort and accomplishment.
I am thankful for my education, the opportunity and my degree.
I am thankful for water, knowing I always have access to clean water.
I am thankful for my sight, and being able to see the colors of life.
I am thankful for my sense of hearing, and being able to hear the voice of loved ones.
I am thankful for my mind, for being able to think, hold onto memories, and create.
I am thankful for experiencing disappointment, so I know the things that matter to me most.
I am thankful for FaceTime, and being able to see loved ones far away.
I am thankful for music, for lifting me up when I'm down.
I am thankful for heartbreaks, for helping me mature.
I am thankful for the sun, that serves as an instant mood booster.
I am thankful for birds chirping, reminds me of other life on this world.
I am thankful for books, for adding understanding in my life.
I am thankful for enemies, that helped me discover my blindspots to be a better person.
I am thankful for my mistakes, for learning from them and moving on.
I am thankful for love, for knowing what it feels like to truly be alive.
Most of all, I am thankful for my faith. I am thankful for my God, because he doesn't make it easy on me, he challenges me everyday. My faith has helped me become at peace with myself. Through every struggle, loss, speedbump, or mental breakdown, he was there and will always be there. I was never alone, and never will be alone. My God will ALWAYS be there for me.
I could go on and on... of course there's much more... so share, what's something you're thankful for?
